    Generic Zithromax (azithromycin) is a macrolide antibiotic prescribed to fight bacteria in the body. It can be used for various infections, including respiratory, skin, ear infections, as well as STDs.

  • How to take

    Generic Zithromax is administered orally. Swallow the entire tablet without chewing or crashing, during meals or otherwise. Aim to take the medication with even intervals and only as prescribed. Do not stop taking the medication until you have finished the course, even if your condition seems to have improved.

  • Side effects

    If you experience any symptoms associated with allergies such as difficulty breathing, hives, swollen tongue etc., stop using the medication and seek urgent medical help.

    Common side effects include mild diarrhea, vomiting, digestion problems, pain in the stomach or chest, dizziness, fatigue, mild headache, insomnia, nervousness, vaginal discharge or itching, mild skin rash or itching, hearing problems, ringing in the ears, impaired taste or smell.

    Note that this list does not include all possible side effects. Other side effects might occur depending on individual health conditions.

  • Precautions

    Avoid taking aluminum or magnesium antacids (e.g. Acid Gone, Aldroxicon, Alternagel, Di-Gel, Gaviscon, Gelusil, Genaton, Maalox, Maldroxal, Milk of Magnesia, Mintox, Mylagen, Mylanta, Pepcid Complete, Rolaids, Rulox, etc.) 2 hours before or after Generic Zithromax, as they may render the medication less effective.

    If you have watery or bloody diarrhea, which is a common side effect of antibiotics, contact your doctor immediately. Do not take any medications to treat it.

    Avoid sunlight and tanning beds and use protective clothing and sunscreen, as Zithromax may increase your risk of sunburn.

    Generic Zithromax may interact with a lot of other medications, especially: arsenic trioxide (Trisenox); cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune); pimozide (Orap); tacrolimus (Prograf); theophylline (Theo-Dur, Theolair, Theochron); warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven); antibiotics, especially clarithromycin (Biaxin), erythromycin (E.E.S., EryPed, Ery-Tab, Erythrocin, Pediazole), levofloxacin (Levaquin), moxifloxacin (Avelox), or pentamidine (NebuPent, Pentam); antidepressants such as amitriptylline (Elavil, Vanatrip, Limbitrol), clomipramine (Anafranil), or desipramine (Norpramin); anti-malaria medications such as chloroquine (Aralen) or mefloquine (Lariam); and cholesterol-lowering medicines such as lovastatin (Mevacor), atorvastatin (Lipitor), or simvastatin (Zocor).

  • Missed dose

    If you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you have missed. Ensure an interval of at least 12 hours between the doses.

  • Storage

    Generic Zithromax should be stored between 59°F and 86°F (15°C and 30°C) away from light and moisture, out of reach of children and pets. Do not use the medication upon expiration of its term of use.
