Imitrex (Generic)

Generic Imitrex provides relieve from migraine headaches by narrowing blood vessels in the brain. The medication also reduces the amount of substances in the brain that cause headache, nausea, light and sound sensitivity and other symptoms. Generic Imitrex is used only to treat a headache attack that has already started and does not prevent migraines.

Take one dose of Generic Imitrex as soon as you identify the first signs of a migraine attack. Take extra doses only as prescribed by your doctor and never take more than 200mg in 24 hours. Swallow the whole tablet with a glass of water, without crashing or chewing it.

DO NOT use the medication if you are allergic to it. If you experience any symptoms associated with allergies such as difficulty breathing, hives, swollen tongue etc., stop using the medication and seek urgent medical help.

Taking Generic Imitrex may cause flushing, dizziness, sleepiness, stiffness, tingling sensation, fatigue and higher body temperature. If any of these side effects persist or become bothersome, notify your doctor.

Inform your doctor if any of the following conditions apply to you: heart disorders, coronary artery disease, kidney or liver disease, high blood pressure or allergies.

Generic Imitrex may have a sleeping effect, especially if combined with alcohol; avoid taking it before driving or other activities that require mental alertness.

The use of Generic Imitrex by older patients is not recommended due to higher probability of side effects.

Use Generic Imitrex during pregnancy only after the benefits and risks have been evaluated by your doctor. The medication can pass into breast milk, although its effects on nursing infants is still unknown.

Notify your healthcare provider on all medications you are taking, especially: ergotamine medications, headache medicines, MAO inhibitors (linezolid, furazolidone, phenelzine, tranylcypromine, selegiline), weight control drugs and antidepressants.

Do not combine Generic Imitrex with MAO inhibitors or take it at least two weeks after ending the course of MAO inhibitors. Take ergotamine medications 24 hours before or after taking Generic Imitrex.

Generic Imitrex should be taken after the start of a migrain attack.Two doses should never be taken at the same time.

Generic Imitrex should be stored between 59°F and 86°F (15°C and 30°C) away from light and heat, and out of reach of children and pets. Do not store the medication in the bathroom.
