Product Info
- Uses
Generic Cytotec is used for reducing the risk of stomach ulcers in certain patients who take nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It works by reducing the amount of acid released by the stomach and protecting the stomach lining, which helps to reduce the risk of stomach ulcers. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
- How to take
Use Generic Cytotec as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions. Take Generic Cytotec by mouth with food. The last dose of the day should be taken at bedtime. Taking Generic Cytotec after meals and at bedtime may decrease the risk of diarrhea. Do not take an antacid that has magnesium in it within 1 hour before or 2 hours after you take Generic Cytotec.
- Side effects
Stop taking misoprostol and seek emergency medical attention if you experience an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives).
Generic Cytotec may cause mild to moderate diarrhea, stomach cramps, and/or nausea. These problems usually occur during the first few weeks of treatment and stop after about a week. The occurrence of diarrhea may be minimized by taking misoprostol with food. Contact your doctor if these symptoms persist for longer than 8 days or if they are severe.
Other, less serious side effects may also occur. Continue to take Generic Cytotec and talk to your doctor if you experience- vomiting;
- flatulence;
- constipation;
- headache; or
- menstrual cramps, spotting, or increased or irregular menstruation.
Side effects other than those listed here may also occur.
- Precautions
Talk to your doctor and DO NOT use Generic Cytotec if:
- You are allergic to any ingredient in Generic Cytotec or to similar medicines (prostaglandins);
- You are pregnant
Some medical conditions may interact with Generic Cytotec . Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:
- If you are planning to become pregnant or are breast-feeding
- If you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
- If you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
- If you have a history of inflammatory bowel disease (IBS), dehydration, or other problems that may be worsened if you become dehydrated.
This does not list all possible precautions. Always speak to your doctor before taking any medication or supplement.
- Drug interactions
The incidence of diarrhea may be reduced by avoiding antacids that contain magnesium. If an antacid is needed, one that contains aluminum or calcium may be a more appropriate choice.
