- Uses
Generic Duphalac is a lactulose based laxative that helps treat constipation. The lactulose used in Generic Duphalac is a colonic acidifier that softens stool in order to stimulate bowel movements. Generic Duphalac may also be used to treat a liver disorder known as hepatic encephalopathy (hepatic coma). Consult your doctor before taking Generic Duphalac for either above mentioned conditions, or alternative uses.
- How to take
Take Generic Duphalac orally with a full glass of water, fruit juice or milk. Take this medication at the same time each treatment. Contact your doctor for the precise instructions that apply to you.
In some cases, it may take up to 48 hours for a bowel movement to occur. Contact your doctor if you do not experience a bowel movement within 48 hours of use, or if condition worsens. Inform your doctor and surgeon that you are taking this medication before you go in for any surgical procedure or medical test. - Side effects
Always read the ingredients before taking this or any other medication to ensure that there are no elements that may elicit an allergic reaction.
Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of the following side-effects associated with an allergic reaction: hives, shortness of breath, swelling of the lips, tongue, throat or face.
Side effects associated with Generic Duphalac include:- stomach aches, gas, bloating, belching, nausea, and cramping.
Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of the following serious side effects:
- irregular heartbeat, diarrhea, vomiting, muscle cramps, weakened muscles, irregular mood swings, or seizures.
Additional side-effects may result from taking this medication. Consult a medical profession before taking this or any other medication.
- Precautions
Do not take Generic Duphalac if any of the above apply to you. If you are not sure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Generic Duphalac.
- You are allergic (hypersensitive) to lactulose or any of the other ingredients of Duphalac (listed in Section 6).
- You have a rare problem called ‘galactosaemia'.
- You have a blockage caused by anything else but normal constipation
- Drug interactions
Always read the ingredients before taking this or any other medication to ensure that there are no elements that may elicit an allergic reaction.
Do not take Generic Duphalac with additional laxatives or stool softeners, unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
Always inform your doctor of any medications you are taking (including vitamins, herbal supplements, and over the counter medications) before embarking on a new treatment. Additional medications not listen here may interact negatively with your medication. - Missed dose
Do not take more than your recommended dosage. Take missed doses as soon as you remember unless it is nearly time for your next treatment.
- Storage
Keep medication in a cool, dry place away from heat and moisture. Dispose of any unused medication past the point of expiry. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
