- Uses
Generic Neurontin (gabapentin) is an anticonvulsant used for epilepsy treatment. It affects certain nerves and chemicals in the body, which cause pain and seizures. Generic Neurontin can be used alone or along with other medications.
- How to take
Generic Neurontin should be taken according to your doctor's instructions and directions on the prescription label. Do not change the dosage or period of use without prior medical consult.
The medication can be taken during meals or otherwise. If you have broken the tablet in two to take a half of it, take the other half within a few days at most. - Side effects
DO NOT use the medication if you are allergic to it. If you experience any symptoms associated with allergies such as difficulty breathing, hives, swollen tongue etc., stop using the medication and seek urgent medical help.
Contact a medical specialist immediately if you experience any of the following: stronger seizures; body pain, symptoms of the flu, swollen glands, high body temperature; easy bruising or bleeding, skin rash, tingling, numbness, muscle weakness or pain; pain in the upper stomach, lack of appetite, dark-colored urine, smaller volumes of urination, yellow-colored skin and eyes; pain in the chest, uneven heartbeat, shortness of breath; nausea, vomiting, mental confusion, weight gain; cough and difficulty breathing; rapid eye movements.
Also, report the following side effects: changes in mood or behavior; depression or anxiety; agitation; feeling of hostility; restlessness; hyperactivity; suicidal or self-hurting thoughts. - Precautions
Generic Neurontin may interfere with vision and reactions. Use caution driving or engaging in other activities that require mental alertness after taking the medication.
Do not take antacid medications 2 hours before or after taking Generic Neurontin.
It is yet unknown whether Generic Neurontin has the potential to harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan or suspect pregnancy. - Drug interactions
Notify your medical specialist about other medications you are taking, especially: hydrocodone (Lortab, Vicodin, Vicoprofen); morphine (Kadian, Oramorph, MS Contin) or naproxen (Naprosyn, Aleve, Anaprox).
Other medications may interact with Generic Neurontin as well. - Missed dose
Take the missed dose of the medication as soon as you remember, but only if there is still more than 4 hours left until the next scheduled dose. If not, skip the missed dose.
- Storage
Generic Neurontin has to be stored at room temperature of around 77°F (25°C) away from moisture and light, and out of reach of children and pets. Avoid storing in the bathroom.
