Atenolol (Generic)

Generic Atenolol (Tenormin) is classified under a group of drugs known as beta-blocker. Made to treat angina and hypertension, Generic Atenolol works to affect the flow of blood through the veins and arteries. In many instances, the occurrence of chest pain and high blood pressure can lead to deadly conditions including heart attacks. Generic Atenolol may also be used to treat and prevent heart attack.

Take Generic Atenolol at the same time every day with a full glass of water. Contact your doctor for the precise instructions that apply to you.

Check your blood pressure regularly when taking this medication to monitor its effects on your condition.

Inform your doctor and surgeon that you are taking this medication before you go in for any surgical procedure or medical test. Do not stop taking this medication without first speaking to your doctor, as suddenly halting treatment may worsen your condition. For best results, combine treatment with healthy diet and exercise.

• Light-headedness
• Shortness of breath
• Swollen feet or ankles
• Nausea
• Sharp stomach pains
• Discolored urine or stool
• Loss of appetite
• Fever
• Severe skin reactions including rash, discoloration, jaundice, blistering or peeling
• Unusual mood swings
• Depression
• A cold feeling in your hands and feet

Less urgent side-effects associated with Generic Atenolol include:

• Decreased sex drive
• Difficulty achieving sexual climax
• Impotence
• Fatigue
• Anxiety and nausea

Before taking Generic Atenolol, consult your doctor if you have a history of any of the following medical conditions:

• Bronchitis
• Asthma
• Emphysema
• Low blood pressure
• Sick sinus syndrome
• Congestive heart failure
• Heart block
• Slow heartbeats
• Depression
• Myasthenia gravis
• Pheochromocytoma
• Raynaud's syndrome
• Any illnesses relating to circulation

Do not take this medication if you are pregnant, or plan on becoming pregnant. Consult your doctor if it is safe to take this medication while breastfeeding.

• anti-diabetics

• any diet pills
• amiodarone
• any allergy treatments (or if you are undergoing allergy skin-testing)
• any cold medications
• any stimulant medications
• digoxin
• guanabenz
• glipizide
• chlorpropamide
• metformin

Always inform your doctor of any medications you are taking (including vitamins, herbal supplements, and over the counter medications) before embarking on a new treatment. Additional medications not listen here may interact negatively with your medication.

Do not take more than your recommended dosage. Miss doses should be taken as soon as you remember, unless it is nearly time for your next treatment.

Keep Generic Atenolol in a cool, dry place away from heat and moisture. Dispose of any unused medication past the point of expiry. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
