Valtrex (Valacyclovir) is a medication prescribed for treatment of genital herpes, cold sores and shingles; however, it is not intended for treatment of herpes virus infections.

Valtrex (Valacyclovir) should be administered orally according to your doctor's instructions. Do not stop the course without prior medical consult, as it may render the treatment ineffective. For better results, take the medication at evenly spaced intervals during the day.
The following common side effects may occur while your body adjusts to the medication: nausea, vomiting, headaches, lack of appetite, pain in the stomach, weakness or dizziness. If any of these effects persist or become bothersome, or if your condition does not improve in the course of the treatment, contact your doctor.
As Valtrex (Valacyclovir) may cause dizziness, avoid operating heavy machinery or any other activities that require mental alertness after taking the medication.

Notify your doctor if you have any of the following conditions: kidney disease, blood problems, or allergies. Elderly patients should use the medication with caution, as they may be more prone to suffer from side effects. If you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you have missed.
