Lidocaine and Prilocaine Gel

Lidocaine/prilocaine cream is a local anesthetic. It relieves pain of normal intact skin and numbing skin to pain from injections and other medical procedures. It works by blocking nerves from transmitting painful impulses to the brain. Lidocaine/Prilocaine work by temporarily blocking this pathway of pain signals along nerves. They do this by stopping the sodium entering the nerve ending at the site of the pain. This prevents an electrical signal building up and passing along the nerve fibres to the brain.

Use Lidocaine/Prilocaine Gel as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

Lidocaine/Prilocaine Gel is usually applied at your dentist's office, hospital, or clinic before a dental procedure.

• Do not inject lidocaine/prilocaine periodontal gel. Apply Generic Lidocaine / Prilocaine Gel using only the dispenser supplied with it.
• Avoid getting lidocaine/prilocaine periodontal gel in your eyes. If you get lidocaine/prilocaine periodontal gel in your eyes, rinse them with plenty of water. If eye irritation persists, contact your doctor. You may need to see an eye doctor.
• If you miss a dose of lidocaine/prilocaine periodontal gel, contact your doctor or dentist.

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most common side effects persist or become bothersome:

Changes in taste; headache; mild irritation, pain, redness, soreness, or swelling at the application site; nausea; tiredness.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; unusual hoarseness); blisters or ulcers at the application site; symptoms of methemoglobinemia (eg, bluish grey color of the lips, nails, or skin; fainting; fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat; seizures; severe dizziness, drowsiness, headache, sluggishness, or tiredness; shortness of breath).

Some medical conditions may interact with l Generic Lidocaine / Prilocaine Gel. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding, are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement, have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances, have allergies to para-aminobenzoic acid derivatives (eg, benzocaine, procaine, tetracaine), have liver problems or glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, will be receiving a dental injection anesthesia or another local anesthetic.

Generic Lidocaine / Prilocaine Gel blocks pain and feeling in the mouth. Be careful not to injure the treated area and avoid hot or cold foods or liquids until the numbness wears off.

Do NOT use more than the recommended dose or use for longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor.
Generic Lidocaine / Prilocaine Gel may cause harm if it is swallowed. If you may have taken it by mouth, contact your poison control center or emergency room right away.

Tell your doctor or dentist that you take lidocaine/prilocaine periodontal gel before you receive any medical or dental care, emergency care, or surgery.

Use Lidocaine/prilocaine periodontal gel with caution in the ELDERLY; they may be more sensitive to its effects.

Lidocaine / Prilocaine Gel should not be used in children; safety and effectiveness in children have not been confirmed.

If you become pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using lidocaine/prilocaine periodontal gel while you are pregnant. Lidocaine/prilocaine periodontal gel is found in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you use lidocaine/prilocaine periodontal gel, check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby.

Some medicines may interact with lidocaine/prilocaine gel. Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

Antiarrhythmics (eg, mexiletine, tocainide), beta-blockers (eg, propranolol), cimetidine, or other medicines containing lidocaine or prilocaine because the risk of side effects or toxic effects, including heart or nerve problems, may be increased
Acetaminophen, acetanilide, aniline dyes (eg, p-phenylenediamine), benzocaine, chloroquine, dapsone, naphthalene, nitrates (eg, nitroglycerin, isosorbide), nitrites (eg, sodium nitrite), nitrofurantoin, nitroprusside, pamaquine, para-aminosalicylic acid, phenacetin, phenobarbital, phenytoin, primaquine, quinine, or sulfonamides (eg, sulfamethoxazole) because the risk of side effects, including blood problems, may be increased

Lidocaine/Prilocaine Gel is usually handled and stored by a health care provider. If you are using Generic Lidocaine / Prilocaine Gel at home, store lidocaine/prilocaine periodontal gel as directed by your pharmacist or health care provider. Keep this medication out of the reach of children and away from pets.
