LATES UPDATE
November, 1 2011: As of today you can request complete opt-out of your Klout account! Login your Klout account —> profile settings —> if you would like to delete your account press here! Your account will be removed, note that will take up to 7 days to get removed from Klout API. It is recommended that you still revoke all access of Klout as well.
October, 31. 2011: BE AWARE that scores of so called "disabled" profiles on Klout.com can still be visible with Klout browser extensions on twitter.com, and in 3rd party applications such us MarketMeSuite and HootSuite. The Real question now is, how can the scores of disabled accounts be seen in 3rd party applications? It clearly shows that Klout is not disabling the accounts but, only masking the accounts with a landing page, which advises the user that his account was disabled. Klouts disabling is deceptive. HootSuite and MarketMeSuite are using Klout's API for accessing the Klout Scores, which is real time data.
Many users have been asking me over past few days how to get their profiles removed from Klout. Not surprisingly, your profile can not be removed from Klout.com.
However, Klout is now offering an option to "disable" your profile from public visibility with a graphic that states "this profile has been disabled".
To do so, you need to send an email request to help@klout.com.
Once your profile is "disabled", be aware that Klout is still collecting and utilizing your data from Social Media Platforms. To prevent them from collecting and utilizing your data, please note that you need to revoke access of Klout applications in every social media platform that was linked to your Klout Account.
Since Klout did not include complete information on revoking their access to your data, please find the below instructions on how to revoke Klout’s access.
If you request to have your profile disabled know that by law Klout has the right to respond to your request within 30 days.
Keep the copy of your request, as well as a copy of the confirmation. If you are not satisfied with their response, you have the right to seek help with your Privacy Commissioner in your country.
For more details on how to get your profile disabled please see the post by Fernando Fonesca.
After you revoke all access, go to your computer settings and remove all the cookies. Klout use cookies to improve the quality of their "service" , including for storing user preferences, improving search results and ad selection, and tracking user trends. Klout also uses cookies in its advertising services " Perks".
